Why Vintage Advertising will always have my heart
Jan 8th
There are times I think I should have been born 50 years ago…
Despite my love for technology, my dorkiness with gadgets, my borderline obsession with social media, I’ve always loved vintage advertisements.
There is something so real and raw about them. The fact that I can look at something, know what it is, and say “I can haz that!” is comforting.
There are some super clever ads and new methods these days (some in my Flickr), but for me, clarity is key.
As we all evolve and update our marketing collateral and ads, please pay homage to vintage ads and be clear. Don’t lose your message by pushing the envelope.
Remember your message and be clear!
With that, PLEASE check out Vintage Ad Browser and let me know what you think!

Free Font of the Week: Walk Around the Block
Apr 2nd
I love block letters. I really love block letters that look handwritten. I used to doodle them on notebooks all the time and they come in very handy for birthday cards.
Walk Around the Block should be added to your font collection. Download it here.
Free Font of the Week: Dirty and Classic
Mar 25th
Dirty and Classic is a great ying and yang font.
The capital letters have a nice Grunge feel (dirty) and lowercase letters have a great script with a swash (classic). Keep growing that font collection! Download it here.
Free Font of the Week is intended to help publicize great fonts that are available for free. I’m a firm believer that you can never have too many fonts in your arsenal and will continue to share them with those who are interested (hopefully on a weekly basis).
Business card on the phone, what’s that you say?
Mar 17th
Go green, use SMS.
Contxts.com is awesome. Personally, I love my business card. For the consulting that I do, I have a nice stamped business card on recycled cardboard that really stands out. It’s simple, classy, and different. Times are a changing though.
Many people don’t want piles of business cards. Most scan them or input them into their computer to manage anyway. And now there is Contxts…
In less than 3 minutes, you can have a profile setup and automatically send your business card to anyone that requests it via text message. It’s simple, effective, and genius.
From there, you could choose to input the information to your phone as a contact, or just leave it in your Inbox and search for the information later in a convenient fashion.
Try it out.
- Text daniel to 50500 for a sample business card, message me if you’d like mine.
Mashable has another great writeup on contxts.
